Version 1.0.0 · Tested on Premiere Pro 26.5 for Mac

The multicam plugin that disables the audio of every camera that isn't on screen.

Disabling a camera isn't enough. If its linked audio stays on, every mic bleeds into the mix and voices talk over each other. Salinas Multi Cam Editor disables the audio along with the camera, so you only enable the few moments you want to keep.

Camera on screen Mic on Camera and audio disabled by Salinas On the wide, both mics stay on.
René Salinas, video editor and creator of Salinas Multi Cam Editor
Why it exists
“The plugin I was paying for still left every mic on. So I built the one I needed.”

I edit weekly podcast episodes for high-profile YouTube channels. I was paying for an auto-editing plugin, but for what it cost it didn't do what my edits needed. It disabled the cameras of whoever wasn't speaking, but their linked audio stayed on, so I still had to go through the whole episode disabling the other cameras' audio so people weren't talking over each other. Multi Cam Editor enables and disables the audio along with the camera in the same pass. Enabling a few clips back is much faster than disabling hundreds. It's now the tool that saves me the most time every week.

How it works

From synced footage to a clean edit in three steps.

Open your synced sequence

Each camera on its own video track, each person's mic on its own audio track. Leave the cameras' own audio where it is.

Match mics to cameras

Tick each speaker's mic and pick their camera. The tick box next to A1, A2… means “this is a speaker's mic,” and each row spells out what it'll do, like “Ticked: when Carlos talks, cut to V2.” Unticked tracks are muted in the edit.

Under Other cameras, tick who's in your wide, two-shot or second angle.

Name it and click Create edit

A new sequence opens with every cut made, cameras sized to the frame and tracks named. Your original sequence isn't changed.

The Salinas Multi Cam Editor 1.0.0 panel: Mics and cameras with A1 Carlos and A2 Maya ticked, Other cameras with a wide and a second angle, Cutting settings set to Balanced, and Create edit showing a 214-shot rough cut split between V1 Wide, V2 Carlos and V3 Maya.

What you get

Built for the shows editors actually get.

Camera and mic switch together

Only the person on screen has their camera and mic on. On the wide, everyone's mic is on. With Delay cuts, the picture and the mic cut on the same frame.

Unticked tracks are muted, not deleted

Camera audio, music or anything you don't tick as a mic stays in the edit, turned off, as a reference and backup. You can choose Muted, Removed or Playing.

Enable only what you want

Bring back a laugh or a quick reply by enabling a single audio clip. Far fewer clicks than disabling everything by hand.

Smooth audio cuts

A 1-frame crossfade on every mic switch stops clicks and pops. It's on by default, and they're normal Premiere transitions you can adjust.

Wides, two-shots and second angles

Tick who appears in each extra camera. Everyone ticked is the wide, used for crosstalk, cutaways and silences. Two people is a two-shot, used when they talk over each other. One person is a second angle, used on alternate turns.

Cameras fit the frame

4K or phone cameras are scaled to your sequence as the edit is built, like Set to Frame Size. Choose Whole picture or Fill the frame.

Named tracks and sequences

Name tracks in Premiere writes your speakers' names on the timeline (A1 “Tami”, V2 “Tami”, V1 “Wide”). Name the new sequence yourself, or leave it blank for “Episode – Salinas edit 14.06”.

Your pacing

Delay cuts, Ignore cuts shorter than, and Calm, Balanced or Snappy presets. Optional wide cutaways on long answers, and optional pause trimming with the jump cuts hidden by the wide.

Set up once per show

Save mics, cameras and settings as a layout like “2-person show” and load it every episode.

Explained as you go

Every setting has a ? with a plain explanation, a recommended value and what to change if something looks off.

Runs on your computer

WAV and AIFF mic files work right away. Media is never uploaded. The panel only goes online to check for updates.

Accurate from the first pass

In testing, the right speaker is on screen more than 99% of the time, with cuts within about a tenth of a second of the speaker change.

Why Salinas

Disable a camera, and its audio is disabled too.

Turning off a camera only fixes the picture. The audio still has to follow it, or you go back through the whole episode fixing it by hand.

Disabling the camera only
  1. The cameras of people who aren't speaking are disabled.
  2. Their linked audio keeps playing, so every mic bleeds into the mix and voices talk over each other.
  3. You go through the whole episode disabling the off-camera audio, clip by clip.
With Salinas
  1. Salinas disables the cameras of people who aren't speaking.
  2. It disables the audio of those same cameras in the same pass, so only the person on screen is heard.
  3. You enable the few clips you want back, like a laugh or a quick reply. Enabling a handful is faster than disabling hundreds.

Questions

Common questions

Is there a Premiere Pro plugin that mutes or disables the mics of people who are off camera?

Yes. Salinas Multi Cam Editor cuts a multi-camera podcast to whoever is speaking and, when it disables a camera, disables that camera's audio too, so off-camera voices don't talk over each other. On wide shots it keeps the mics of everyone in frame open.

Which version of Premiere Pro does it work with?

Version 1.0.0 was tested on Premiere Pro 26.5 on macOS and ran without issues. Windows and earlier Premiere Pro versions haven't been tested yet, so if that's your setup, mention it when you order and we'll confirm before you pay. It opens from Premiere's Window menu under Extensions.

How much does it cost?

$13.99 a month or $139 a year, through our checkout partner Lemon Squeezy. One subscription per editor, client work is allowed, and every update is included while it's active.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

Go to creativityliveshere.lemonsqueezy.com/billing and sign in with the email you subscribed with. There you can switch plans, update your card or cancel. Subscribers also re-download new versions there.

What if I want someone off camera to be heard, like a laugh?

Enable that one audio clip. Salinas disables off-camera audio by default because it's much faster to enable the few clips you want than to disable every off-camera clip in an hour-long episode.

Can I save my settings for each show?

Yes. Save your mic and camera setup and your cutting settings as a layout, like "2-person show," and pick it from the menu next episode. You can start from the Calm, Balanced or Snappy editing styles.

Does it change my original sequence?

No. Creating an edit never changes your original sequence; the edit is built in a new one. The optional Name tracks in Premiere button does rename your original's track headers, but only when you press it.

Does it work with wide shots, two-shots, or more cameras than mics?

Yes. Under Other cameras, tick who appears in each extra camera. Everyone ticked is your wide, two people is a two-shot and one person is a second angle. Extra angles of the same person share that person's mic.

Do I need a separate audio track for each mic?

Yes. It decides who is speaking from each person's own mic track, so each mic needs its own track in the sequence. Leave the cameras' own audio on its tracks. Salinas spots it, tags it Camera audio and keeps it muted in the edit as a backup. Just don't tick it.

My cameras recorded audio too. What do I do with it?

Use it to sync (Synchronize → Audio), then leave those tracks unticked. Salinas keeps them muted in the edit as a reference and backup. Select a piece and press Shift+E to use it.

My 4K camera looks zoomed in.

Keep Fit cameras to the frame ticked. It's on by default.

I hear a click when the mics switch.

Smooth audio cuts is on by default. If you still hear one, try 2 frames.

How do I change a shot afterwards?

Every camera stays on its own track. Select the clip and press Shift+E.

How do I update?

The panel shows a notice when a new version is out. Quit Premiere, run the new installer, and your layouts and settings carry over.

More detail on every setting is in the setup guide. Questions or feedback: multicamedt.lz5t6@simplelogin.com
